Families & Individuals
This membership is for individuals or families who are looking for comprehensive, accurate resources and connection to a community of experts on selective mutism. Along with access to our comprehensive website, SMA members can use additional exclusive interactive features and benefits to become more informed about SM. Exclusive features include connecting directly with top experts in the field, receiving discounts on purchases and SMA conference registrations, as well as a host of other value-added services and opportunities to learn. Treating Professionals
- Hold a valid license or certification in good standing that enables treatment of selective mutism as set forth by the guidelines of the respective accrediting agency
- Working 50% or more as a faculty member in a degree-granting institution that supports the selective mutism community
Treating professional members are encouraged to market and promote their upcoming events on the SMA Calendar of Events to increase awareness and support to individuals and families who are affected by selective mutism.
Treating professional members are encouraged to submit their professional biography and picture for the Find a Treating Professional page on the SMA website. That way, families and individuals seeking help for their child can easily access professionals in their area.
SMA offers speaking engagement opportunities at conferences and webinar events so that treating professional members can share their expertise with others in the field.

The SMA treating professional listserv allows professionals to communicate regarding treatment, referral information, new research, upcoming events/recruitment for research studies, and more.
Educators

Students & Trainees
- are enrolled in a graduate-level program that supports the selective mutism community at least one-half time or a minimum of 6 semester hours or its equivalent per semester
- engaged in a post-graduate training/fellowship program To verify eligibility, after joining, you will be contacted to upload a copy of your transcript (official or unofficial) or a letter from your advisor or supervisor, confirming your course of study and/or training. Once you complete supervision and become an independently licensed/certified clinician/practitioner, contact the Selective Mutism Association (membership@selectivemutism.org) to upgrade to a Treating Professional Membership.
The SMA receives no government funding and our work is 100% privately funded thanks to the generosity of members and donors. By becoming an SMA member, you can support our work to increase awareness, education, and research, and to improve the lives of all those affected by selective mutism.

Looking for a treating professional in your area? SMA can help connect you. Our list of professionals who specialize in the treatment of children with selective mutism is available to all. We can also provide helpful tips to consider when choosing a treating professional.
Find a Local Support Group
Local support groups are forming regularly. Learn about support groups in your area or find like-minded individuals interested in starting one.
Online SMA Library
The Library serves as a central portal of information to educate caregivers, educators, and professionals about selective mutism. Information regarding treatment approaches is supported by research and the library is updated with further information as it becomes available.
Calendar of Events
The online calendar of events is a fast, easy way to check upcoming events, webinars, conferences, and other educational opportunities offered around the country. The calendar will be updated as new events are added.
