Dr. Lindsay Scharfstein

Dr. Lindsay Scharfstein is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Founder of the Rockville Therapy Center, an inclusive private practice based in the DC Metro Area that serves Maryland, Virginia, and all participating Psy Pact States listed here: https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida and completed her Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral fellowships at the Yale University Child Study Center. Dr. Scharfstein is the Director and camp enthusiast of the Confident Kids Camp-DC Metro for childhood selective mutism since 2019.

Dr. Scharfstein conducts specialized psychological assessments for individuals with anxiety and related disorders, to help obtain accurate diagnoses and develop personalized treatment plans. She is extensively trained in evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders, Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics and Tourette’s (CBIT), the SPACE program to target family accommodation.

Regarding selective mutism, Dr. Scharfstein uses Parent Child Interaction Therapy for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) during in-person and virtual sessions to help children and teens who are coping with selective mutism. In addition to individual therapy, she offers the following expanded services:

*Peer Playdate Sessions – Supportive playdates with other kids with SM to build peer speech.

*Community Speaking Sessions – Brave talking practice in real-world settings like stores and restaurants.

*School Visits – Helping kids and school teams develop speech in the classroom.

*Intensive Therapy – Several hours of therapy each week to fast-track progress.

Dr. Scharfstein engages in ongoing communication with family, school, and community systems to foster collaborative relationships and optimize treatment success and quality of life. She offers educational workshops within the community and at national conferences to reduce mental health stigma and to increase access to evidence-based care.
